So we went to Escape Velocity on fourth of July weeend and had an awesome time. For those of you who don’t know, Escape Velocity is a conference held by the Museum of Science Fiction with some help from the Baltimore Science Center and several sponsors, including NASA and IBM. 2016 was its inaugural year and it was great. As you might expect based on the organization responsible and the sponsors, while this is a science fiction convention on the surface it is decidedly geared towards education.
Zenkaikon 2016 just ended and we had a great time. In all fairness, Zenkaikon is basically our favorite convention of the year. It is just the right size and combines both anime and science fiction, two of our favorite things! Continue reading Zenkaikon 2016-Our Experience.
We had the good fortune to attend Anime Boston this past weekend. It’s a great con and lots of interesting people were present. There were many mecha themed panels, which made us very happy of course. The whole convention is much more focused on anime than many other conventions we have been to, without a broader focus on East Asia in the same way as some other conventions. It also has fewer panels rooms at any given time, and many of the rooms were quite small.
The thick of con season is quickly drawing near. If you’re anything like us, you have already been to one or two this and have another couple in as many weeks. We recently purchased new, collapsible, water bottles in preparation and it has made us reflect on something central to our con life-the con kit.
