So Graham, Darkpixxi and I are not going to be at Katsucon this year, although Kamille will be. No sadness, we are doing something else fun. However, a few people have asked if I would be presenting “Wiggin’ Out” again this year, and of course, I won’t. Haven’t figured out how to make that whole being-in-two-places-at-once thing work correctly.
So when I decided to write about this a little bit, I got stuck on what to call what this post is going to be-now quite a rant, not quite a discussion. Basically, I am laying out the reasons thatI am in favor of treating cosplay similarly to clothing. By this I mean a couple of things-one of which is that if you have specific requirements or preferences in clothing that
A plan for Otakon-light clothing that’s comfortable in the summer and has secret spots for wallets, etc.can be carried over into cosplay (such as having pockets, glorious pockets) do so. Several people I know do this makes a difference in how comfortable and convenient your cosplay are to wear. Continue reading Clothing vs Cosplay Conversation→
This post is a list of many of the conventions in the DMV area currently, along with their general or last known locations. We have also included a little mini-description of each convention to help people plan. We run into many people asking us to recommend conventions that are small and intimate or are very family friendly, etc. Basically, recommendations or discussions of specific types of conventions. We are hoping that this post helps to answer some of this need. There are many sites such as convention scene that list dates and locations, but these sites often don’t offer additional information. So we compiled an admittedly incompleted list with some additional information. Continue reading Local Convention List→
A while ago I found this little gem at the Discotek Media booth at one of the many conventions I travel to. This was Dai-Guard: Terrestrial Defense Corp., a mecha series which I had heard of, but never watched. It looked entertaining, so I decided to pick it up.
I finally got around to watching this a few weeks ago, and I really swept through this series. Now to the fun details.
Dai-Guard is a sci-fi mecha series created by XEBEC and directed by Seiji Mizushima, who directed both Gundam 00 and the original Full Metal Alchemist anime series. This is a quaint story about a security company in the year 2030 and their giant robot…also paperwork.
Dai-guard is robot that was created by the 21st Century Defense Security after an attack by a large monster known as a Heterodyne. Unfortunately, they disappeared after the first attack, and it became nothing more than a attraction for years to come. Continue reading Review: Dai-Guard→
As you may know, those of us here at Doomtastic are BIG fans of The Addams Family. Maybe not quite as obsessed as Graham is with Gundam, but close. We love the Addams Family, all the way back to Charles Addams’ original cartoons in the New Yorker. While there are many things to both admire and disdain about The Addams Family, including its unabashed campiness, it is hard to deny that The Addams Family was ahead of its time in many ways. Given both the upcoming festive season and the Fact that Netflix is set to release a new animated The Addams Family movie it seems only just to celebrate some of the features that made The Addams Family so iconic. And it goes beyond the fact that they are “Mysterious and Spooky… altogether ooky.” Continue reading 5 ways the The Addams Family was ahead of its time.→
