Otakon has passed, August is winding down and Labor Day weekend is right around the corner. And we all know what that means-Baltimore Book Festival Just as fall starts, September 23-25, the Baltimore Inner Harbor will host the annual Baltimore Book Festival. That’s right, in less than a month Baltimore will host a free public festival devoted to BOOKS!!
We tend to be avid readers on this side of the screen, and the Baltimore Book Festival is one of our favorite annual events here in Baltimore, especially once you exclude conventions 😉
In case you haven’t heard about the Baltimore Book Festival, they have author readings and signings and two local bookshops are the official vendors-The Ivy Bookshop for the adult books and Red Canoe for children’s. Both of these are awesome places in their own right and it is wonderful that the Baltimore Book Festival Supports them. Baltimore County and Enoch Pratt Free libraries are represented as well. This Festival is massive. It starts at Light and Pratt Streets and follows the Inner Harbor Promenade all the way to the Rusty Scupper.
This year there is going to be a Pop Culture parade put on by Geppi’s Entertainment Museum Friday Morning. There will be a whole host of people in cosplay for that, so it should a good time. Luckily no conflict with Baltimore Comic-Con this year. And the weather should have cooled off slightly. The list of authors presenting is truly amazing as well. Of particular note, for me anyway, are Scott Edelman, Sunny Moraine, and Glen Weldon. Basically there are great authors, great books, and some interesting discussions. Plus free wi-fi (although that is part of a project separate from Baltimore Book Festival.
As a something of a junkie for street and festival food, t always enjoy that aspect as well. In general, the Baltimore Book Festival is a reader’s dream, a geek’s delight, and a great way to spend a day or more this September
Hope to see you there!
